FAQ: Why snorkel? Simply put, the right snorkel can be the best insurance you buy for your ATV or UTV. The right snorkel can protect your expensive investment from disaster when submerged deeper than the original rating. On the other hand, a bad snorkel can be your worst investment and your worst nightmare. We have seen countless units come through our store with leaking snorkels. How could this have happened? Snorkels leak for a variety of reasons. Installation errors are largely responsible for this. Many times a DIYer can be successful, but only for a short time. When pipes are not cut to the correct lengthand things don't line up correctly, the snorkel will often keep out water, but only for a limited time, and then the seal fails. One of the most common problems we have seen is failure due to a heat source. When the snorkel passes near a heat source, the snorkel material deteriorates with each ride. The material becomes harder and more brittle and often begins to warp. At some point, the material cracks and begins to let in mud and water. Cheaper kits rarely provide the heat resistant material to account for this. Our goal is to avoid these areas. This may take more time and more material, but goes a long way in extending the life of the snorkel and ATV/UTV. What does a snorkel do? A snorkel kit is intended to provide clean, dry air to the engine and other parts requiring ventilation on ATVs/UTVs such as clutches, differentials, transmission.transmission, carburetors and fuel tanks. This does not necessarily mean that the ATV/UTV must exceed the maximum waterline depth rating listed by the original manufacturer. The Snorkel Kit is intended to provide an additional margin of protection in the event the ATV/UTV is inadvertently driven into deeper water than the original manufacturer's air intakes will tolerate. There are many considerations to make when increasing waterline depth and a snorkel is just one component. We know a thing or two about pushing off-road vehicles to the extreme - especially when it comes to deep water and mud.
