After testing the front suspension, we found over 4 inches of bump in the factory system. Bump steering is a change in toe setting (the front of the tires closer together than the rear of the tires) throughout the front suspension travel cycle. The best setup is as close to a zero toe change as possible. If your front tires change their toe-in, they are essentiallement the same as if you turned the steering wheel slightly with each bump you hit. Lumpy steering is one of the biggest contributors to steering wheel feedback, twitchy driving ability, etc. Significant wear and tear on the front end and forearms worn out from trying to keep the car straight. So, in an effort to eliminate all of these things, we developed our BSD™ (bump steer delete™) tie rod kit for the X3 RS. Our kit moves the pivot point of the outboard tie rod, which changes the geometry of the front end and lowers the factory 4 inch hump steering measurement to just 3/8 inch! With the steering removed, the car is much easier to drive, steer and control. What was once a two-handed grip on the steering wheel to keep the car in whoops is now just a few fingers on one hand. THIS KIT IS DESIGNED TO FIX THE GEOMETRY OF THE FACTORY ARM CONFIGURATION. ALL AFTERMARK WEAPON CONFIGURATIONS PRODUCE A DIFFERENT AMOUNT OF BUMP STEER. ***THE BUMP STEER MUST BE MEASURED BEFORE INSTALLING THE KIT***
The factory car has no adjustment capabilities for alignment other than toe-in. Caster and camber CANNOT be adjusted. Adjusting the toes with our BSD kit will not affect any other aspect of alignment since nothing else is adjustable.
For all of you who may have already purchased a set of replacement tie rods for your X3 but want to correct your geometry without purchasing the full tie rod, we have an answer for you. You can buy our jointt exterior with the geometric mounting spacers and upgrade your aftermarket tie rods. You can purchase them with the 5/8 left hand threaded rod ends or if you already have 5/8 rod ends in your tie rods you can simply purchase the spacer kit.
